In November 2006, Mills signed to play college basketball for St. Mary’s College in California. As a sophomore in 2008-09, Mills averaged 18.4 points, 3.9 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 steals in 32.1 minutes per game and was named WCC Player of the Week twice (November 24 and December 8). He was subsequently named to the WCC All-NBA First Team for the second straight year. In April 2009, Mills declared for the NBA draft, forgoing his final two years of college eligibility.
Patty Mills is a short point guard with fast speed. His first option is to score rather than pass; he shoots accurately and can shoot with the ball or catch and shoot; he is very flexible on the defensive end and is good at steals, but he suffers from height. Likes to pull up jump shots; on the defensive end, despite frequent mistakes in judgment, he is very active in defense.
Patty Mills entered the NBA through the draft in 2009 and played for the Trail Blazers and the Spurs successively. In the 2011-12 season, he played for professional teams in Australia and China. In the 2013-14 season, he won the NBA championship with the Spurs . On August 10, 2021, Mills signed with the Brooklyn Nets.
