In 2013, Siakam enrolled at New Mexico State University. In the 2015-16 season, he averaged 20.2 points, 11.6 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 34 games, and won the honor of WAC Player of the Year.
Siakam was selected by the Toronto Raptors with the 27th pick in the first round of the 2016 NBA Draft, and was then assigned to the NBA Development League. As a 2017 rookie, he led the Raptors affiliate to a championship and won the G League MVP. The 2018-19 season became a turning point in his career. On May 31, 2019, Siakam contributed 32 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks, setting a career high in a single playoff game. He will then help the team win the NBA Championship in 2019 and was awarded the Most Improved Player in the NBA. He is the first player to win both awards in the same season.
