Otto Porter studied at Georgetown University during his college days. In his freshman season, Porter averaged 9.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. In his sophomore season, he averaged 16.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, and was elected the best player in the United States and the best player in the Big East.

In the 2013 draft, Porter was selected by the Washington Wizards with the third overall pick in the first round. He played well in the 2015-16 season. In the 2015-16 season, he averaged 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. On November 9, 2016, Porter scored 34 points, setting a career high in a single game. In the 2016-17 season, the 43.4% three-point shooting rate ranked fourth in the league, and Porter’s offensive efficiency gradually improved to the advanced level of the league. In July 2017, a four-year offer contract worth $106 million was reached with the Wizards. In February 2019, the Wizards traded Otto Porter Jr. to the Chicago Bulls for Bobby Portis, Jabari Parker and a 2023 second-round pick.
