Stewart attended McQuade Jesuit High School in New York for his first two years of high school, after which he transferred to La Lumiere School, a prep school in Indiana. He’s a proven five-star rookie and ranked No. 1 among the top players in 2019. Stewart averaged 18.1 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game in his senior season, helped his team achieve a 30-1 record, won the McDonald’s All-American honor, and was named Mr. Basketball and the Naismith Reserve Player of the Year , was also selected to the “USA Today” All-American Team and the MaxPreps All-American Team Two. He was selected by the Detroit Pistons with the 16th pick in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft (the draft rights were originally owned by the Trail Blazers) and officially became a professional basketball player.
Stewart’s athletic ability is top-notch, and he can block positions well. His style of play is a bit aggressive. In the 2021-22 season against the Lakers, he had a physical collision with James, and was elbowed, causing the corner of his eye to crack. He’ll help the team do the dirty work, an old-school, tough little guy with a big tonnage inside.
