Ming Kee Haynes said on the TV show that if he is not traded, Irving will continue to play, fulfill his contract for this season, and then leave the team to enter the free market.
“Irving informed the Nets that if he is not traded to another team, he will leave directly as a free agent during the offseason.” Haynes revealed on the show.
Haynes also said he would be surprised if Irving didn’t leave the team before the trade deadline.
So far this season, Irving has played 40 games for the Nets, averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1 steal and 0.8 blocks per game, shooting 48.6% from the field and 37.4% from the three-point range.
The Nets currently rank fourth in the East with 31 wins and 20 losses.
