February 4th, according to The Athletic’s Shams report, multiple sources revealed that Kyrie
– Irving applied to the Nets for a deal, and wants to leave the team before the deadline (4:00 a.m. on February 10), or enter the free agent market this summer and leave.
According to Bleacher Report reporter Chris Haynes, several sources in the league said that after the Nets made an offer linked to the team winning the championship, Irving’s team did not negotiate with them to renew the contract.
Haynes said he was told it wasn’t about the money, but now that if Irving was given a full max contract, he wouldn’t stay.
Mingji Woj reported that multiple sources revealed that Irving wants to renew his contract with a maximum salary of US$198.5 million in four years, but no team has made a promise so far.
So far this season, Irving has played 40 games for the Nets, averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1 steal in 37 minutes per game.
